Following our service in the Falklands, I found that I had great difficulty with flying, this had a serious effect on my life for over 25 years.
Recently owing to changes in medical priorities for ex-servicemen in Scotland I underwent a course of therapy, which found that although I was not suffering from PTSD I had developed a flight phobia triggered by the air attacks on Ardent.
There are a couple of therapies available one is EMDR which requires professional help the other is called EFT which you can learn to use yourself.
I would recommend that if you do have any hang ups due to your time in the Falklands that you go and ask if these would be suitable for you, be aware though that there anre apparently many in the medical establishment who pour scorn on EFT.
All I can say is that it's worked for me, and that I feel the way about flying that I did on the 20th of may 1982!

Chez (Tony) Chesterson mailto:chez40@btinternet.com Hi y’all,as some of you are probably aware,I’m suffering from PTSD,and this is my second time around,(lucky me!)
It’s not a pleasant “ailment”,and can affect you in all sorts of different ways, excessive drinking, violence towards loved ones/anyone,feelings of depression, worthlessness, not wanting to go on,anger/panic/anxiety attacks, all go towards this mental state.
I have been involved with Combat Stress now for over 12 months, and I got in touch via my local SSAFA member, who also got me my entitlement to a war pension as well,(amazing the benefits you don’t get told about!)
If you think you are having issues,or feeling low and depressed, act on it,don’t think it will go away as it won’t,I’m living testament to that.
Listen to family and friends,as they will see how you may have changed, where as you are living it so maybe you won’t be as observant. The help IS out there,if and when you realise you are having problems USE it.
My problems were work orientated this time round,so anything can set it off,I’ve now found a new job back in refrigeration, and I have cut the ties from my previous employer totally.
It’s worked, and I am beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel finally!
My kids will no longer get bawled out,nor my missus.
If you want to contact me,e-mail me and I will send you my phone number,if I can shed any light for you, then I will do my damndest to help you!
Remember, you’re not a wimp asking for help,no need to be ashamed,it’s just the first step on the ladder to recovery, with professional help, and some from friends.
