The Type 21 Club Assocation
31/12/08 08:00 Filed in: 21 Club
Together with the HMS Ambuscade Assocation, our
assocation has been involved in establishing the Type
21 Club Assocation.
The 21 Club is for all who served on these superb ships and there has been interest, still at the embryonic stage, to form a 21 Club Association. There is no intention to undermine existing associations which we encourage. In the future the new assocation wants advertise events open to all the 21 club reflecting the unique camaraderie that existed across all the Type 21's that served in the fleet.

The Wellcome Collection in London is currently
running a major new exhibition entitled War and
Medicine. Part of this exhibition is an online site
that invites members of the public to Add, view and
share memories of war.
"These memories will be analysed and will help us to understand how we understand and recall war. 'Remembering War: Your memories' is part of the 'Remembering War' event, which supports the 'War and Medicine' exhibition."
If you would like to contribute to this site you can find it here: Wellcome Collection - War and Medicine

Its Been Quiet

The world has been very busy these last few months
but for the assocation its been very quiet. The
pre-Christmas newsletter is currently being planned
and this will have a feature on the Falklands Requiem
which is being held in London on 2 December 2008. The
date for the 2009 reunion is set for Saturday 23 May
and will take place in HMS Drake as usual further
details soon.
A few broken links have been fixed on the website and a few clean-ups needed in the guest book, we do get the odd cyber-vandel now and again. Please don't forget the chat area is there for you to use as much as you want, this has also been quiet recently as well!
Finally, don't forget the photo story book HMS Ardent (F184) Ships Life Through The Lens is still available for purchase here and website has a much improved preview of the book for you to view before purchase.

In this issue we report on the May reunion as well as all the latest news from our members and friends. We are also announcing the new PTSD advice section of this web site. As the newsletter went to press the assocation learnt that the MOD has published the official report into the loss of HMS Ardent in 1982. This report can be accessed via the NAAFI Queue chat area.
Those members who signed up for e-delivery of Ardlines saved around £10 in assocation funds for this issue alone and received the newsletter in glorious colour a week before the printed version. If you would like to join this service you can sign-up in the Ardlines section of the members area.
21 May 2008 Remembered
21/05/08 22:03 Filed in: Reunions
The private little ceremony was very well attended by the Plymouth stalwarts. It was made even more poignant by the sight of RN/RFA ships , some at anchor , some under way, and in the background a Lynx helicopter could be heard. The Floral tribute was laid by John Foster and I recited “They shall grow not old…..”
Not very well I’ll admit because as usual the emotions very nearly got the better of me. There was another floral tribute already in position from Kevin MacDonald and family but no sign of them in the area.
We shall remember them.

It is with deep regret
that we announce the sudden death of our shipmate
John Goddard. John passed away on 1 May 2008.
His Funeral took place on Monday the 12th May 2008 with a Requiem mass at Christ the King R.C. Church in Plymouth and then his body was cremated at the Weston Mill Crematorium. On a gloriously sunny day we said goodbye to John Goddard. 15 Ardent members took their place in the congregation both at the church and the crematorium. Moving tributes were said by John's daughters who bravely spoke about their father. We Ardents all mourn the passing of John who always kept us on our toes with his wit and humour. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.
